Routing metrics in Delay Tolerant Networks

چکیده
Routing in telecommunication networks rely on the definition of performance indicators called routing metrics. Popular routing metrics are the route throughput, end-to-end delay and jitter. However, in a delay tolerant network displaying link disruptions, these metrics may be questionable. This contribution proposes six metrics for characterising routes in a delay tolerant network. These metrics are: route lifetime, end-to-end delay, capacity, synchronicity and simultaneousness. Some of these metrics are borrowed (and possibly adapted) from classical networks, others are new. Each metric is formalised and examplified by showing how the use of these metrics helps to compute routes which are adequate for applications that may be deployed over delay tolerant networks.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks
Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) are a class of networks that experience frequent and long-duration partitions due to sparse distribution of nodes. The topological impairments experienced within a DTN pose unique challenges for designing effective DTN multicasting protocols. In this paper, we examine multi-copy routing schemes for DTNs. We provide analysis of multi-copy routing schemes by derivin...

Abstract Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a particular type of mobile ad hoc network in which vehicles communicate between themselves using wireless antenna. Due to unique characteristics of VANETs (e.g. high mobility of nodes and dynamic topology), routing is one of the challenging tasks in such networks. Consequently, delay tolerant networks which consider the disconnect nature of...
متن کاملImproving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

Routing in delay tolerant networks (DTN) can benefit from the fact that most real life DTN, especially in the context of people-centric networks (e.g. Pocket Switching Networks (PSN)), exhibit some sort of periodicity in their mobility patterns. For example, public transportation networks follow periodic schedules. Even most individuals have fairly repetitive movement patterns, for example, dri...
